My Curriculum Vitae

I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1992 with a BSC(Hons) degree in Applicable Mathematics and Economics.

I was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary education) in Mathematics in 1996 from the Manchester Metropolitan University. Please contact me and I will happily provide my DFES teacher reference number and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) confirmation.

Prior to 1996 I worked in the insurance industry as a Commercial Claims handler in the UK and Australia, and as an Account Executive for a Public Relations company.

From 1996 to 2006 I worked full-time as a secondary teacher in Mathematics in schools in Manchester and Bolton. I met the Performance Threshold Standards Assessment for excellent classroom practice in 2004. The headmaster at Smithills wrote:- "Mr Evans is developing into a high calibre teacher who is strong in the classroom and contributes to overall school priorities" I have taught all ability groups at Key Stage 3 and GCSE. Regarding pupil progress the headmaster wrote:- "Excellent outcomes at every level reflecting his high standards and effectiveness as a teacher. Very positive, pleasing and successful."

Since 2006 I have worked as a specialist maths consultant at a number of schools, but mainly with Moor Park school in Preston - a role which has helped these schools to raise their GSCE results in maths significantly by providing tuition to targeted pupils.

Evidence of pupil progress

As a specialist maths consultant, since working at Moor Park and Smithills, both schools have increased their maths results significantly, from well below national average to above national average in both cases. Over 90% of the pupils i have worked with have moved from failing maths to passing maths.

As a private tutor since 2006 my record at helping pupils to reach their target grades has been outstanding, which has continued with the new double award GCSE (first examinations 2017).

As a classroom teacher, my pupils regularly achieved well above national average and their own individual targets. My classes out-performed other classes, which is why I was invited back to Smithills as a maths consultant to help improve exam results in maths.

I will happily provide reference details from Moor Park on request and am also happy to provide contact details of parents whose children I tutored through their exams last year.

Ofsted

I have been observed by Ofsted on a number of occasions, whereby my teaching was described in every case as very good or excellent. Since starting as a maths consultant at Moor Park in 2008, the maths results have increased from 39% in 2007 to 68% in 2012, helping the school move from satisfactory to outstanding.

I have available tuition time-slots for new students.  Please Contact me to check availability and to book an appointment.
