My Curriculum Vitae

I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1992 with a BSC(Hons) degree in Applicable Mathematics and Economics.

I was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary education) in Mathematics in 1996 from the Manchester Metropolitan University. Please contact me and I will happily provide my DFES teacher reference number.

Prior to 1996 I worked in the insurance industry as a Commercial Claims handler in the UK and Australia, and as an Account Executive for a Public Relations company.

Since 1996, until recently, I have been working full-time as a secondary teacher in Mathematics in schools in Manchester and Bolton. I currently work as a specialist maths consultant at Moor Park school in Preston and Smithills school in Bolton - a role which is helping schools to raise standards by providing expert tuition to targeted pupils.

I met the Performance Threshold Standards Assessment for excellent classroom practice in 2004. The headmaster at Smithills wrote:- "Mr Evans is developing into a high calibre teacher who is strong in the classroom and contributes to overall school priorities"

I have taught all ability groups at Key Stage 3 and GCSE. Regarding pupil progress the headmaster wrote:- "Excellent outcomes at every level reflecting his high standards and effectiveness as a teacher. Very positive, pleasing and successful"

Evidence of pupil progress

Since starting at Moor Park in 2008 I have helped targeted pupils to rediscover their confidence and achieve their target grades - whilst helping the school to achieve their best ever results.

As a teacher at Smithills, my most recent GCSE Higher group achieved almost one full grade higher in maths when compared to other subjects, with 6 pupils achieving A* or A. At key Stage 3, my year 9 group's SAT results - 12 of the pupils improved upon their Key Stage 2 performance by 3 levels (18 pts), with majority of remainder increasing by 2 levels (12 pts). The average improvement nationally for pupils entering Secondary school at Level 4 is 1.5 levels (9 pts).

Ofsted

I have been observed in three separate Ofsted inspections, whereby my teaching was described in every case as very good or excellent.

I have available tuition time-slots for new students.  Please Contact me to check availability and to book an appointment.
